Discussing Kate specifically, they remarked, "She’s likely to hear from people saying, 'You don’t have a traditional 9-to-5 job, you don’t answer to a demanding boss, and you don’t need to constantly check emails because someone else will update you on important matters.'" Despite this, Hannah acknowledged that the Princess clearly felt the topic was significant enough to take a public stance, with Emily describing the essay as "a bold move"—a rarity for the Princess of Wales. Hannah added, "It’s unusual and could be seen as controversial."
In the essay itself, the Princess emphasizes the necessity of being fully present with loved ones. She argues that true human connection begins with focused attention, warning that screens are especially alluring for babies and young children. Overexposure, she notes, can impede the development of critical social and emotional skills.
